Music is a force of nature—a rhythm that moves through the air, a heartbeat that carries stories, a spirit that never fades. After finishing Mr. Bluebird on My Shoulder, I found myself pulled deeper into the soul of Southwest Louisiana’s music, its legends, and the vibrant energy they bring to the world. These three new pieces were born from that creative flow—a celebration of iconic musicians and the spirit animals that dance alongside them.
🎶 Chubby Carrier & The Zydeco Raccoon
Zydeco legend Chubby Carrier brings the groove, his accordion breathing life into the moment, while a mischievous little raccoon-like critter can’t help but get down with him. Carrier, a Grammy-winning powerhouse, has spent a lifetime spreading the joy of zydeco far beyond the bayou, blending funk, rock, and R&B into a sound that makes it impossible to sit still. This piece captures that electric energy—the music moving through the air, too irresistible for any creature (human or otherwise) to ignore.

🕊 Ann Savoy & The Cardinal
There’s a certain grace in the way Ann Savoy moves through the world—a fierce devotion to Cajun music, a poetic soul, a presence as timeless as the songs she sings. In this piece, she is accompanied by a red cardinal, her spirit animal, watching over her like a guiding muse. Ann’s legacy as a musician, historian, and author has helped preserve Cajun culture for generations, and this artwork is a tribute to her enduring influence.

🐉 Corey Ledet & The Accordion Dragon
Some musicians carry fire within them—Corey Ledet is one of them. Known as the Accordion Dragon, his music blazes through tradition and innovation, a fusion of zydeco, blues, funk, and jazz that keeps the Creole spirit alive. In this portrait, his mythical counterpart sits perched on his shoulder, a symbol of the power and passion he pours into every note.

These three pieces are an ode to Louisiana’s living legends—musicians who have shaped the soundscape of the South, carrying history in their melodies and magic in their presence.
